donnybrook
Have any of you AMEs out there done a trade equivalency assessment (or some form of challenge) to apply your aircraft maintenance experience towards another trade? I'm thinking stationary or power engineer, heavy equipment, or millwright.... Any tips would be appreciated!
Heliian
I know a guy who just challenged the heavy equip exams but I think you just need to pick something you want to do and go and try to get in, I have yet to see any official "crossover" equivalencies. flingwinger
I've been hearing a lot lately that ame experience can count towards a millwright ticket, I believe it was 5 years as a licensed AME but I have yet to do any research. skullcap
May not be what you are asking but apparently AME's are quite sought after in the wind turbine industry.
Skidz
Turbine-powered natural gas power plants are also pretty "hot" for AME's. Heard a lot of young apprentices coming out of AME schools are getting poached by the industry...

FiveCut
Yup in alberta you can challenge all years minus one for an applicable trade. I did it and am also a red seal heavy duty. Inbox me
Hazy
Do you have any links that you could post for the masses?
flingwinger
I found this document that outlines the requirements to challenge the red seal millwright. 9,900 hrs of documented related experience. I've been told that they will not count AME apprenticeship time it has to be as a licensed AME and you have to have each employer complete a form documenting hours employed and type of work carried out. Ie - hydraulics, pneumatics, conveyor systems etc. http://www.itabc.ca/sites/default/files/program-information/industrial-mechanic-millwright-profile-nov-2013.pdf
FiveCut
You need to be licensed and the thing is you need to convince your employer of your competence. They can sign for all hours minus one year if you challenge exams. That's for any related trade. I have documents somewhere but it's not public ally published. You need to go see AIT and they will print it out for you
