  1. I always wondered how long help would take in the barren lands? No support, just the camp cook with a hand held radio, flight plan open till dark......Clapped out jet ranger, middle of now where -35 or even summer and extra middle of now where. Don't recall any company having IFR aircraft on standby for rescue. Maybe i just worked for crappy companies and clients. Or maybe it's just an acceptable risk.....
  2. Spreadsheet and once a year i grab a bottle of wine or three and fill in a paper book..
  3. What's non rev? Is that the time you don't put in the logbook. Like say, flying from Calgary/Springbank to parts unknown?
  4. Image if TC employees weren't working from home, the score could be even worse.
  5. What are pilots objections to flight helmets? I don't get it, you wear gloves when refuelling, oh wait, most of you don't.
  6. You'll have to pry those bell mediums from our cold dead hands......
  7. Maybe you need an agent to help with your negotiations........ Tony Soprano jr......
  8. Can we just skip the "union" and go straight into mafia style wage negotiations?
  9. Did HAC's disinformation campaign pay off? Did TC just clarify Aerial work for fires?
  10. This will solve your problem. https://www.pilot-usa.com/blulink.html
  11. I'm pretty sure that medevac operations are exempt, and trying to mix medevac and taxi services would be a problem, just as mixing 702/703 operations can be problematic. Moreover, does this operator really have four pilots for what is supposed to be a 24-hour operation? My guess is that in the past, they were only working when they were flying.
  12. Be very careful what you sign and have someone review the contract before signing. This really depends on your situation and the opportunity presented. I would try to negotiate something different, instead of a "insert amount/time" bond. You pay me "insert amount" for staying x amount of time. If someones wants to poach me they can pay my "insert amount" i would lose out on to jump ship. Personally I wouldn't sign a bond in this market, owners need to get more creative in retaining staff. I can hear the gasp, a non punitive bond....
  13. The company in the story doesn't have a job ad anywhere that I could find. I guess they rely on word of mouth only.
  14. $1000 adjusted for inflations using the bank of Canada calculator is $1483. The cost of an R44 in 2003 for training ~500hr, thats $741 today. Schools i quickly checked R44 - $835. Is $140,000 for a summer season unreasonable in 2023 for an experienced pilot?
  15. In 2003 a medium drive was getting $1000/day for 100day contract straight up. 20 years later you should be getting at least $1050 per day.
