Has anyone refused to fly and what was the outcome?
robottxt replied to JRK38's topic in General Helicopter Operations
You better be in jail or the emergency room and if you're in jail someone will come get you. That's been my experience with drills/seismic/Heli ski , You may as well hop in the aircraft and fly home, cause they will be on the phone looking for a better pilot. -

I always wondered how long help would take in the barren lands? No support, just the camp cook with a hand held radio, flight plan open till dark......Clapped out jet ranger, middle of now where -35 or even summer and extra middle of now where. Don't recall any company having IFR aircraft on standby for rescue. Maybe i just worked for crappy companies and clients. Or maybe it's just an acceptable risk..... -
What's non rev? Is that the time you don't put in the logbook. Like say, flying from Calgary/Springbank to parts unknown?

Is a helmet mandatory for fire fighting?

What are pilots objections to flight helmets? I don't get it, you wear gloves when refuelling, oh wait, most of you don't. -

Can we just skip the "union" and go straight into mafia style wage negotiations?

Did HAC's disinformation campaign pay off? Did TC just clarify Aerial work for fires?

I'm pretty sure that medevac operations are exempt, and trying to mix medevac and taxi services would be a problem, just as mixing 702/703 operations can be problematic. Moreover, does this operator really have four pilots for what is supposed to be a 24-hour operation? My guess is that in the past, they were only working when they were flying.

False promises you got as a carrot.

Be very careful what you sign and have someone review the contract before signing. This really depends on your situation and the opportunity presented. I would try to negotiate something different, instead of a "insert amount/time" bond. You pay me "insert amount" for staying x amount of time. If someones wants to poach me they can pay my "insert amount" i would lose out on to jump ship. Personally I wouldn't sign a bond in this market, owners need to get more creative in retaining staff. I can hear the gasp, a non punitive bond....
