  1. Looks like the Air Canada pilots are feeling under compensated. https://beta.ctvnews.ca/national/business/2023/3/3/1_6298300.amp.html
  2. “According to figures provided to CBC News, Transport Canada issued 62 helicopter pilot licences in 2012. But in 2022, that number dropped by 80 per cent to just 12.” I find it hard to believe that only 12 students completed the CPLH in 2022, really??? Wouldn’t we see a lot of flight schools shutting down if that was the case?
  3. Most are intermediate drivers. I’m not sure what a 10k+ medium driver makes.
  4. I don’t think $140k is unreasonable. Most pilots I know ( less than 10) are making between $120k -$160k. Some on equal rotations and some 5-7 months and not much of a schedule. If you break it down none of them are getting $1400 a day. Probably somewhere between $700 - $1000. Most of them have between 3000 and 6000 hours and none of them are CP or Ops managers.
  5. Haha, $1000 a day plus 20 years of 2% inflation, You would probably be asking for what this union is asking for https://nationalpost.com/opinion/michael-higgins-clueless-union-demands-47-raise-from-clueless-liberals/wcm/250a03f6-ac9e-4887-9386-d9df608a16c9/amp/ Have the rates changed much in the last 20 years or is it still a race to the bottom?
  6. Alright buddy, enough already. A fellow pilot got hurt and it’s serious. So either donate or take your bull$hit back to the jab part of this forum, and get some help.
  7. Employers that don’t pay can also find themselves with a reputation. The person I know that made a claim was asked to come back a few years later. That employer has a poor reputation and hard time finding employees. If you make a claim, you don’t get paid what was not owed to you. If the employer can’t figure out the federal labour code and the exceptions applicable to our industry, that is their own fault. If a new employer will not hire you because you made a claim, then you did yourself a favor. Most owners, CP’s, and ops managers already know the reputation of their competition. Companies that are heavily weighted with less experienced pilots, engineers and TFW’s tend to have a poorer reputation and you may want to steer clear. These are just my opinion’s from 20+ years in the business. Take it or leave it. You will know if you should make a claim or not.
  8. https://www.canada.ca/en/services/jobs/workplace/federal-labour-standards/filing-complaint.html This will cost you nothing and is not much effort. I know a person that filed a claim and got what was owed. Might take a while. Just make sure it is federal and not provincial, as we are federally regulated. Good luck, and get what you are owed. We spend enough time away from family and friends to not get compensated for our time. A good company won’t care if you made a claim against your last employer. If they do, you probably don’t want to work for them.
  9. “The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, and the Deputy Prime Minister, Chrystia Freeland, today announced details of the government’s plans to require COVID-19 vaccination across the federal public service and federally regulated transportation sectors. Under the new policy, federal public servants in the Core Public Administration, including members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, will be required to confirm their vaccination status by October 29, 2021. Those who are unwilling to disclose their vaccination status or to be fully vaccinated will be placed on administrative leave without pay as early as November 15, 2021. Employers in the federally regulated air, rail, and marine transportation sectors will have until October 30, 2021, to establish vaccination policies that ensure employees are vaccinated. Effective October 30, 2021, travellers departing from Canadian airports, and travellers on VIA Rail and Rocky Mountaineer trains, will be required to be fully vaccinated, with very limited exceptions. The government is working with industry and key partners to put a strict vaccine requirement in place for cruise ships before the resumption of the 2022 cruise season.” https://pm.gc.ca/en/news/news-releases/2021/10/06/prime-minister-announces-mandatory-vaccination-federal-workforce-and “Vaccine requirements for travellers Effective October 30, air passengers departing from Canadian airports, travellers on VIA Rail and Rocky Mountaineer trains, and travellers on non-essential passenger vessels on voyages of 24 hours or more, such as cruise ships, will need to be vaccinated. Effective October 30, travellers will need to be fully vaccinated in order to board. Specifically, the vaccination requirement will apply to all travellers 12 years of age and older who are: Air passengers flying on domestic, transborder or international flights departing from airports in Canada Rail passengers on VIA Rail and Rocky Mountaineer trains Marine passengers on non-essential passenger vessels, such as cruise ships, on voyages of 24 hours or more For travellers who are in the process of being vaccinated, there will be a short transition period where they will be able to travel if they can show a valid COVID-19 molecular test within 72 hours of travel. By November 30, all travellers must be fully vaccinated, with very limited exceptions to address specific situations such as emergency travel, and those medically unable to be vaccinated. In addition, this vaccination mandate will include specific accommodation to recognize the unique needs of travellers from small, remote communities (some of which are not accessible by road) to ensure they will be able to travel to obtain essential services in support of their medical, health, or social well-being, and return safely to their homes. This accommodation will be informed by engagement with Indigenous organizations and provinces and territories in the coming days. Enforcement Transport Canada will oversee compliance by means of inspections and enforcement tools—including Administrative Monetary Penalties—using oversight systems in place for each mode. For those who falsify information or otherwise fail to comply, there will be serious consequences. For example: Railway companies could be subjected to compliance actions up to $250,000 per violation, per day, under the Railway Safety Act In the air sector, individuals—either travellers or employees—could be fined up to $5,000 per violation under the Aeronautics Act, and operators could be fined up to $25,000 per violation In the marine sector, employees and travellers could be fined for being non-compliant with the obligation to provide proof of vaccination up to $250,000 per violation, per day, and operators could be fined up to $250,000 per violation, per day, for non-compliance to the Interim Order made pursuant to the Canada Shipping Act, 2001 “ https://www.canada.ca/en/transport-canada/news/2021/10/mandatory-covid-19-vaccination-requirements-for-federally-regulated-transportation-employees-and-travellers.html
  10. ROTOR, This might help you understand what I was referring to. The World health organization refers to it as the “infodemic”. The article has nothing to do with conspiracy theories, Microsoft, Bill Gates, crooked companies, ect. I think it’s an interesting read no matter what side of the fence you are on in regards to covid. As it doesn’t have much to do with Covid. It may help some people understand why others have formed such strong opinions and can’t see their point of view. https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/information-overload-helps-fake-news-spread-and-social-media-knows-it/
  11. What claim? No study needed. It’s a word get a dictionary.
  12. Longline, You may want to educate yourself on the definition of asymptomatic. It will help you understand the post you are referring to.
  13. Grayhorizon sorry to hear about your mom’s condition. I know two people that have lost a loved one due to COVID-19. One had a preexisting health conditions, the other did not. It can be very frustrating and hurtful to the families that have lost someone and have to keep seeing conspiracy theories about covid all day long everywhere you look. So for everyone that uses the internet for your own personal research. You may want to learn how big tech and free internet services work and have evolved. You may want to ask yourself how big tech and social media make billions of dollars off of free products. Well they use A.I. to mine your data and predict your interests. They also find and feed you more and more of your own narrative to keep you coming back. The goal is to keep you hooked and coming back to sell more advertisements. This doesn’t sound like a unbiased way of doing research. I’m not saying the internet can’t be used for research. it’s just getting harder to see both sides if your narrow minded and looking for a particular outcome.
  14. Looks like the pilot did a good job of getting it on the ground with half the tail boom missing. Could have been worse.
