Audio Exceedance Warning

Peter Jenkin at Aero Dyne Repair has an audio warning system on his data acquisition units that are adjustable by a laptop plugged into the aircraft. They can be set to beep at an exceedance or prior to exceeding depending on your preference. He has them STC'd on 204,205,206,212, AS350,MD500 (maybe more A/C too?). The 407 has its own exceedance recording device so I don't know if Peter has any audio system for it though.

We have one in our 407. Works great! You hear a beeping in the headset when either 100%Tq or redline on the MGT or max NG are attained. One simply lowers the collective and the sound goes away, no exceedance happens as long as you act quick enough. Great for longling etc...

As a retired P/E I would contact the manufacturer of said helicopter and ask what they would recommend, if any.

Personally I would go with a HUMS system, if you were inclined to use the audio warning system as an indication of over torque or over temp.

This system is not infaliable (audio) and could become very costly if pilots started to use them as a standard warning indication.

Cheers, Don
