  2. Looking for comments on what operators are putting into place for flight crews. Say Forestry calls us out on a fire - How are we going to protect ourselves... Tiger is selling the NIOSH mask which might be a good idea to have. But I'm not sure if the filtering they talk about is even protective. Hearing that operators are deeming themselves Essential Services only these days, while others are open for business as usual. So what you guys doing if the phone rings....

  6. Thought you may enjoy this golf ball drop I did awhile back. We've done dozen's, but abandoned it. The problem wasn't from the airshow side, it's the bit of remaining 1,000ft above the highest obstacle within 500ft. of the aircraft. Ah yes, the old Assembly of persons bit 602.14(2) Aeronautics act $3,700 bucks later, that was it. And remember pictures on social media are used in TC investigations, along with Webtrak if applicable to your area.
  7. Robottxt - Interesting handle.. We are all aware of spreadsheets and DropBox and a good idea. Anybody have a spreadsheet that tracks Flight Time, Duty Time, Rest Periods, Days off, and Days off due next. I'm looking for a Company wide solution that all my pilots can populate daily and I can review from time to time ensuring compliance with CARS.
  8. Just checked their website, can you configure CARS limitations into the tracking piece. Also wondering if they offer Company level where the CP can track / audit their flight crews for compliance. Thanks R0t0r
  9. What's everyone using these days? FDXLS has pretty much run it's course for me old program that wont run on my machine. What's a good cloud based solution or is there one that tracks all the trackable pieces, even allowing you to use Ops Spec exceptions. Cheers

  12. Time to upgrade another ELT. Looking for some feedback as to which manufacturer you folks would recommend. We are not having much luck on the annual from our Kannad 406AF-H, $300+ to fix it the last time. Understand there are issues with Kannad placement in the Bell206. Comments ... Thinking the Artex ME406HM may be a better choice. Appreciate any and all Feedback. Thanks
  13. I had the good fortune to write them all in 2011. Get your hands on a copy of CARS Deluxe http://airregulations.com/canadian_aviation_regulations/intro.html A great resource to study with and to use regularly going forward. When you get your copy, you want to spend the time and figure out how the search functions work, bookmarks, highlighter - very powerful program if you learn how to use it. Also if you're writing the PRM, a resource that literally saved my bacon is to get a copy of CARS for the AME http://www.carsfortheame.com/ A MUST have. Here's a reward for reading this post ....... Know this one!! "day" or "daylight" - means the time between the beginning of morning civil twilight and the end of evening civil twilight Overall not that tough if you give yourself a chance, i.e. Study, lockdown mode for a week, book the exam - makes you stick to the date.. All the old rules apply, like careful about changing your answers, 90% of the time your 1st. answer was the correct one. Good Luck,
  14. Contacted them and they are not taking on any new clients. They did however recommend we take a look at TData.com Anybody have an experience with them? So still no solution or magic bullet yet.... WinAir - Expensive especially if you buy MP's Templates which really is a must have. You can lease the program that gets the $$ down. Calm Air - Their demo freezes my computer = Pass Aeronet - Looking at that one, holds promise. Anybody using it?? AMS - Too big, to expensive Airborne Data Systems - Again too rich $$, seems to have every option available to mankind. A perfect world for a small operation like ours would be .... Buy or Hire someone to create ATA styled Maintenance templates for each aircraft. Populate an excel spreadsheet. Find a single source to receive daily email updates for AD's, SB's etc.. Incorporate the AD / SB tracking into the spreadsheet Viola, Still enough time left in the day to have some fun, like go flying...
  15. Heliian Thanks for the tip. Took a look at Winair and yes big $$. After reading through their material and talking by phone it lead me to MPlan. This company makes ATA Aircraft templates, but only work with Winair. Does anyone know of a company that makes up these aircraft ATA templates. Thinking this may solve my problem at least in part.   16. All you maintenance guru's out there ... Looking for a reasonably priced tracking program. I've looked at a lot of them but when it comes to $$ they break my budget. 5 machine max. tracking AD, SB alerts would be nice Purchase order module also would be nice. My excel spreadsheet needs a total make over. Anyone have a smooth running spreadsheet they wouldn't mind sharing? Running Bell206B3, R-44II, AS350B2 Thanks in Advance
  17. Great stuff everyone. Keep it coming. Let's add a thought...... AS350B3. Bigger dollars but once in the field how does it work out? I've heard many comments half good half bad. Fadec issues, magic "black boxes" that fail. One comment I agree with is the B3 is likely to become the B2 of the future? Oh, Congrat.'s we've made it to page two...... Thanks All

  19. Believe it or not I am about to ask for all of your Comments on the Subject. That could be a mistake, but hey I'm always the optimist. So here's the challenge and I know you are all up to it. Staying on Topic for two whole pages. Here we go ... Starting down the road of trying to figure out which machine will reward us with better value, the fewest sleepless nights, ease of maintenance, pilot friendly, and did I say "Best in Class" value. AS350B2 - Arriel 1D1 - Not feeling good about many angles to this route. High DOC's, higher fuel burn, limited parts, no spare engines around if need be, and so on .... Comments please ... AS350SD2 - Popular conversion, LTS 101 700D-2 great engine (so I hear), must use an existing AS350B2. So higher entry cost to start with a B2, retains Eurocopter electrics - not a good thing. Performance increase - maybe - seems to depend on who you talk to. Comments please ... AS350FX2 - Another popular conversion, same LTS 101-700D-2 engine, but conversion can take place to a BA or B2 - Hmmmm, cheaper to convert if using a BA. Electrical upgrade - big time improvement. But, sounds like an ongoing battle with Eurocopter on "Approved" parts and whether they will permit B2 parts on a BA converted machine. Comments please ..... So now that you all realize that I don't speak Astar, I've spoken Bell my 20+ years in the business (mind you I did have to take French in High School). Whats the consenus around the group. **** maybe a Bell206L4 ?? Sure would simplify the paper work side, training matrix, parts inventory .... Thanks in Advance ....   22. Coffee's always on in Chilliwack !! Not to mention the Pie !!! As a fling wing guy it looks to me like we have quite a runway out here 4,000 ft.. We'd love a reason to stand out on th ramp and start a new rumor. So bringl your fixed wings to CYCW for the day, have some pie, and header back to YVR for your nightime pax... Rates for Chilliwack are a bit cheaper ..... Overnight: $5 plus GST per night. Tie-downs are located west of the Terminal. Monthly: $50 plus GST - must be prepaid at the management office. Yearly: $480 plus GST - must be prepaid at the management office. Hmmm looks like you can park in Chilliwack for a whole year for the price of a single landing fee in Whistler. http://www.whistlerheliport.com/operations/2010_olympics.htm There is only one operator I know of that can work with these numbers........ "And the Winner is". Impossible to collect a landing fee - look in the book see - the aircraft was never there!! We did come up with a work around - Hover exits!! Skids don't touch the grond, no fees. All else fails there's a big gravel pit around the corner. But seriously - AME206350 - how did the Whistler Heliport Society come up with that number? Guess you figured correctly that to recover the costs you had to jack the price so high because transient traffic would fall to like 2 movements per day. Divide that into your $60K oh boy..... we're really going to have to giver if were going to break even. Considering that Blackcomb Aviation is the sole helicopter member of the Society it must have been rather challenging to figure out a way to minimize your movement costs while recovering enough 3rd. party revenue to cover Society costs. You guys must all work for "The Winner Is"....... Math for the 23rd. Century? Looking to me like Pemberton's going to be busy. Wonder how Pemberton's going to pay their $60K? Did I mention the Pie in Chilliwack .......
