  2. You will also need to include paying WCB in whatever provinces you work. You get hurt or God forbid worse you wont be covered on the company plans for WCB and Insurance.

  5. Great Slave was Started by Rod and Allen would. I believe their first Machine was BFH. The worked out of a small hanger in Yellowknife until they out grew it. They then moved into the Echo Bay hanger. They worked closely with Echo Bay helping support Echo Bay 206. Eventually Echo Bay sold their helicopter to GSH and John Buchlandt went with it. John stayed with GSH until Adam started Acasta. I believe John is now there.
  6. With the markets the way they are i am thinking Fires maybe the only hope this Summer. I am sure funding is drying up for exploration and everything else.
  7. TwinOtterFan go and do what your heart tells you to do. Not sure if some people on this forum just need to get out of aviation. I personally love the North. I know a pile of Fixed and Rotary pilots that have spent their whole career flying in the North and still love it. Thank god for these people as the North would be nothing without them. If everyone took DGP advise and left the north there would be No jobs in the South and the North would die.

  13. I have been having issues with some of my Garmin. I have a 396, 496 for aviation and a 420S for boating. All of these units are having trouble picking up satellites. Anyone else having issues.

  17. EXP88 i never said they feel they are hot shot at 500 hours. What i said as i have seen guys with 5000 that could not longline and guys with 500 hours that could. Twin Helix i think EXP88 answered your question. He poaches from other companies. He doesn't look at anyone with less then 2,000 hours. Let someone bare the risk and cost of training low timers. This is becoming a typical attitude in this industry Then he can blame on customer requirements.
  18. First of 2,000 hours flying tours and to the same well sites day after day does not necessarily make you a better pilot. If you cannot figure out the feel and systems on a machine at 200 hours 500 may not help much. I know pilots with 5,000 hours that scare the crap out of drillers on a long line. I have also seen pilots with 500 hours total time fly a long line that impress’s every one they work with. I have also witnessed guys with well over 2,000 hours that couldn’t think for themselves in the bush. Some operators like to claim 2,000 hours is an insurance requirement. I don’t know
  19. Sorry i have to disagree. New pilots are defiantly lined up. However companies are asking for rediculous PIC time like 2,000 TT and 500 on type. Low timers can't get jobs as they don't have the hours.

  21. I don't believe there is any price fixing in this industry. Its a dog eat dog industry. Besides price fixing is called Collusion and thats illegal. The only way its legal is if you call it OPEC then its legal.

  23. AS much as i don't see any harm in a CVR, i also see little need. You mentioned Hot Dogging in the bush. You are correct it happens not just in the bush. Most of it happens when the pilot is the sole passenger. So i am not sure would good a CVR will do.
  24. That could be because this industry is in the tank. Operators work for less now then they were 10 years ago. Them union companies people talk about are the same companies demanding cheaper rates on a daily basis.
