Ex-military Machines In Canada?

I was curious how many ex-military machines are flying around Canada in this age? I've personally worked on two questionable 204's in western Canada.

What stood out for me was the small differences between the ship, and the IPC. (oil cooler area for example) Also, one was a lot lighter, and a stump puller all day long.

Bell Mediums (UH-1 variety) are not allowed in Canada as with restricted category in the US. There are some lights (COH-58) that have managed to squeeze in and TC approved as more or less personnal use machines (not for hire???).

 

With either ex-military ships, the big problem is getting parts, that is if you ever figure out which configuration you are suppose to have :blink:

Why in Canada there are a spirit (not everywhere) to use olds cabs?

Round the world some choppers don't exists anymore, and here still in use, like 204, 205, S58, and the same for old versions of some chppers like 350-D, 206-L, SA332, H500C, A109C, S76C, 365N, 355F1,2,X, etc....

The new versions make the work of two of olds, like the 350B3, 206-L4, 407, Koala, etc...and cheaper/reliable to operate...

I don't know how this spirits?? buy old cabs for low money, spend a lot of money over, and take poor contracts, weak to work and break all the time ???

Good idea! Lets scrap all helicopters before they reach the first major inspection. Never worry about needing spare parts ever again!!

nothing wrong with an older ship. There will always be work for them, and hopefully always parts!

MGK, never underestimate the mechanical simplicity of a Bell medium single...there are some things that are pretty hard to mess up, a Bell medium is one of those -- as you note, once you figure out what configuration was being used for the placement into civil registry.

they're not ex-CF labs...the BV107 and 234 were produced for the civil market as well.

Perhaps if the first major inspection was 20+ years ago, you might want to rethink that one.

I personally like em broken in a little, like after 20,000 hrs, you know, all the recurring snags have been addressed. Although my baby gSKY only has 5,000. :punk: :punk: :punk:

 

 

My all time fav 206 HHB, she had 21,000 hrs and could lift an A-Star load.

 

I would say it's economics, we have a very small clientel and a lot of very experienced people, so more companies. I would love to hear from operates in other countries. How much does a 206 go out for in Europe, in Canadian dollars please.

 

But I gota say, name me another country that has our incredible engineering staff. #1 without a doubt! B)B)
