Bell 206 Sliding Door

Recommended Posts

As a loyal Bell supporter ....I must say that Bell sliding doors are total pieces of cow-dung !

They are poor quality, weak, they rarely slide smoothly, hard to open and close, customers have a hard time dealing with them, they slide over ( or more like...INTO ! ! ) the Baggage door, so are a total waste of time and money.

They are sticky, require regular lubrication, and if not installed/adjusted properly they will be drafty and annoying. On the lighter side, they are fairly durable and parts rarely wear out.

I think It's a little thing called Maintenance! I recently took over a 212 and you almost had to use a come-along to get them to move. Cleaned the tracks (silicone) changed ALL the rollers (totally trashed!!!) Just amazing, one finger open and close!!

Nothing wrong with Bell Doors

I wouldn't put a sliding door onto a 206 unless I had a real good purpose.......because of all the problems mentioned above (all minor but still annoying).

However, I wouldn't mind one on any Astar as they work quite well.

The downsides to sliders on Astars are the minuscule front doors and the fact you can't put squirrel cheeks on with them installed. Also, customers tend to be rough on the sliders. In my pre-flight briefings, I always take the time to say " these aren't mini-van doors. Don't slam 'em !"...

Why doesn't EuroCopter go to Chrysler and have their engineers come up with the push button electric sliding door opener just like the mini vans have. They're child proof too just in case one of those absent minded drillers or juggies, might have their foot still stuck out the side.
