Over-Talk
Happy feet, here's what you are missing........ A few years ago the US Army ordered, then cancelled the Sikorsky 66 Comanche Reconnaissance/Light attack helicopter. The US Army then ordered, and now just cancelled the Bell ARH (an armoured 407) Reconnaissance/Light attack helicopter. However Boeing has just announced they want to build a new version of the old Hughes/MD 500 for this type of contract. (the Hughes 500 was referred to in Vietnam as the little bird). (.......hopefully we won't see a rebirth of the Widgeon.)
Freefall
Why does boeing get all the military contracts for MD's helicopters. I know boeing took the apachee from McDonald Douglas before they sold it to MDHI but I didnt realise they get to build 500's for the military too. No wonder MD has been hurting so bad if boeing still has the rights to sell their aircraft to the military. I saw an interesting show on the unmanned little bird on TV. Boeing seems to be developing it according to the program. They are also doing the AH-6 upgrades to the 6 bladed rotor head, new powerplants and canted, 4 bladed tail rotors. Shouldn't MD be doing this stuff??
ray
Boeing bought out MD.

ChopperBob
Boeing sold the MD to MD helicopters, but kept the right to market the 5 hondo to military customers. MD builds the ships, then Boeing mods them to contract specs. There is an "international" version of the AH/MH-6 coming that is gonna fulfill the army's need.
