Obama All About Helicopters

Recommended Posts

Sitting back waiting for someone to begin some predictions on what the new presidency and the election of Obama will mean for the helicopter industry. Does he amazinly turn the economic downturn around and the stock markets get flooded with junior mining companies screaming for overbooked aircaft, or do we continue on a downward spiral into a depression too deep for one man to climb out of, or will it have absolutely no change what so ever on the helicopter industry. Thought it may be a good topic and should start a few debates if nothing else.

Bob, you must remember. You are not allowed an opinion, if it does not agree with the original poster... :fart:

Besides, I've been listening all day on the radio to "experts on everything" and I think that we wasted a whole bunch of time on elections (both north & south of the boarder).

We should just have all the "experts" sit on a board of directors, and let them run the country(s). They all seem to know what needs to be done and how it should be done and who should do it.

Getting pretty tired of it already...

The international image may be improved since Obama is expected to the US away from the super-aggressive military stance of Bush. Here in Canada Obama may be less of a blessing. Historically the Democrats have been more likely to take a protective isolationist stance economically. The Republicans have generally observed a hands-off free market position to trade, although they will talk extensively that Americans should "buy American" and support local industry. On the other hand the Democrats have been more likely to put in place programs that protect American jobs (need to keep that union support) or put in place import restrictions and duties. If they go down that route to "save the American economy" we may be paying the price.

Obama has made reference to rexamining the NAFTA agreement, and it won't be to make it "freer". This new Democratic America will likely be tough for the Canadian manufacturing industry whereas the Canadian resource and energy sectors will likely see some benefit in the medium and long term since the US will always have those needs.

So the helicopter business? We are largely tied to resource and energy production. When they rebound so will we, with the possible exception of the lumber industry which may take a long time to get back on its feet.

we are in Iraq and Afganistan.....OIL! ????

Americas largest supplier of oil is Canada, Iraq is sixth and as far as I know heroin comes from Afghanistan. This is not to justify the actions in either of these countries, but it does point out one of the problems the US faces, the ignorance of the general public.

1) The President of the United States does not walk on water and never did. He is also just 1/3 of the power that manages the country.........he is not the king, nor does he get special powers because he is of a different colour or has a Law Degree. He is now in the process of starting to learn the true meaning of the expression 'trying to make chicken salad out of chicken sh*t'.

2) Yes the US is in Iraq for oil and have been since 1922...as have the British, French and the Dutch before them.....and now the Russians. Canadian firms are also there 'up to their elbows' and have been for decades.......Safety Boss, Red Deer, AB being paramount among them. Who was going to do it.......a bunch of camel drivers standing around scratching their butts and looking at the ground? Now they do nothing at all and collect 65% of EVERY drum of crude oil that comes out of their ground......"Yes" 65%....and dictated so by OPEC. If the citizens of Iraq don't see any of it, don't blame the Americans, Dutch, Russians or French oil companies. It's such a nice deal that Saudi Arabians don't even have to work if they don't want to because they get free national healthcare and EVERY citizen receives $35,000/yr from the Saudi government.....for life. The fact that their leaders live in castles and vacation in Monte Carlo aboard their yachts with their share of the monies isn't the fault of the oil companies either.

Ergo, the Americans, Dutch, British and French oil companies were in Iraq for the oil long before any Saddam Hussein or any Gulf Wars....... and they'll be there long after.
