New Helmet!

Recommended Posts

Good call Trex, ill look into it. Darn thing has sentimental value. If i change helmets, may jinx myself!

Maybe time to send old Betsy in for an extreme make-over. Heard it takes a while to geter done though and the problem is that I never seem to get a month free from flying. Flying without a helmet is just not oing to happen. Same goes for gloves. Sure glad I had em when I has that radio fire! King

Now if I could only teach my self to wear clean underwear and stop recycling all would be perfect.

I used the same outfit and am not very pleased with his service.

I don't like to badmouth anybody, but as a honest buyer you would expect a honest deal.

The helmet was delivered in the wrong colour, with a later statement "I ordered you that white, because the other one cracks faster"

The visor cover was not painted as agreed... Instead of a yellow visor he sent a clear one

No Flex boom as agreed

Further instead of sending an original helmet bag, he replaced it with a $29 chinese product - after 2 weeks already falling apart

Delivery took 3 months, no official invoice and product soaked with pipe smoking smell.

Customer service is poor there. My advise.. spend a little bit more money and get proper service! Merit Apparel seems to be THE adress for Gallets.

Take it easy and PM if more infos needed.

I haven't read all the posts on helmets, so please forgive me if I'm repeating something.

I'm wondering if everyone has those attachments that make it easy for you to disconnect your helmet cords in a crash / under water situation.

My friend told me that a lot of pilots who drown couldn't get their helmet cords undone. And often they are found with seat belts disconnected, but still attached by their helmets.

He had this cord extension made specifically to facilitate quick disconnect.

I thought about everyone here when he told me. And wondered why he would have to have one specially made / why it wouldn't be mandatory, and then wondered if anyone else has one, or even knows about it.

I only know of one specific accident with this issue though I'm sure there are more. There was a Coast Guard Bo105 that went into the ocean with two people on board. The passenger got out of the helicopter but died in the cold water. The pilot drowned instead. The helmet jack was still in the socket, with the cord ripped out of it. They did a test to see how much force it would take to pull the cord out of the jack sideways like that and I may be wrong but I think it took nearly 100lbs of force.

I didnt use an extension cable on my helmet when I first got it and I can think of at least twice I got out of the machine to hot fuel and forgot to unplug my helmet. I had to repair the wiring in my helmet once as a result. Since I've got the extension cable of course I always seem to remember :P but its still nice to have.

Its not anything specially made. I think alot of places sell extensions and any will work. Any length at all will result in the plug being pulled apart where it joins your helmet cable if any amount of force is used. Many companies have alot of old com gear lying arround it would actually be fiarly easy to make one if you wanted. All you need is a male and female plug, and the wire.

I hope everyone uses this. It seems like such a simple little thing that could really make a difference. I'd like to get a whole whack of them and mail them out for Christmas presents.

Yep, stay away from this clown 0 customer service after sale is made. Also got the same crap bag. He must sell the original bags seperately. Needed a thinner zeta liner on trade for the old one, won't return E-mail.
