Another route you might want to pursue is buying a used unit. The Garmin GPS 96C has been around for about 5 years and includes Jeppesen and highway databases. No Topo maps but it does have a simplistic terrain warning. These were $900 new so might be on the market for a lot less via Ebay or whatever.
