What do you think of this model?

I'm just wondering why are you guys buying your own. Does your company not have them in every helicopter.

I have been with companys that supply them and some that dont.Its hard to go without that colored map once you get used to it.

I take mine with me when I fly fixed wing from time to time also.

It's nice having your own unit anyways. When you switch machines all your waypoints go with you.

Garmin 296, hasn't missed a beat in years. Soooooooooo much easier than actually having to read a map, or open that blue book thing for a freq..........

The 296 is awesome especially when you have the unlocked maps. The price is coming down now too.. I got mine for 2300 a few years ago.

The 296 is only like 1200 now its pretty sweet. I have a 196 which isnt quite as nice but it has the same power plug as the older Garmin GPS units that alot of operators seem to use so its easy to just plug in.

 

Of course the 696 looks pretty awesome if you are a drug dealer or your wife is a doctor.

Using 496 up on the dash and 430 nav/com in the dash...496 is great..430 has lots of info,,grafics are mickey mouse
