Not sure about Parry Sound...but Britt has a Coast Guard Station...as far as I know all the machines are based in Ottawa!?

Don't know much about the east coast but the crew on the west coast are as thick as thieves!To get in all depends who you know. The official story is that its a "transparent" hiring process, but the reality is quite different. But good luck!!

The machines are on both coasts, the Great Lakes & on Coast Guard Icebreakers

Sounds like a sour grape delivery sprinkled with a dash of truth, although I wouldn't put it quite like that.

 

I was lined up for a place at the hover craft base on the Fraser River before a rather large setback / accident cut me out of the opportunity. A close friend (brother from another Mother) is a rescue specialist with the CCG here on the west coast, and has been for years. Knows a LOT of people. While I was taking the last of the classes required, he introduced me to his boss, the guy who would be doing the hiring, the guy who trains everyone out there, and gave me a tour of the base. And I had a chance to meet a lot of people I'd have worked with.

 

Seems like the aviation industry and the marine industry may have some parallels. Not sure, because I've only really had working experience in marine.

 

Regardless, it does seem somewhat important to know people. Or at least be interested in knowing people. At least a little. And the thing is, if you've got a solid attitude and you're good at what you do, you'll be likable enough anyway. I've learned that if you hang around enough (without being a pest), have something positive to offer the team, sooner or later, if you want it bad enough, you'll get in. Unless of course you have a stroke before you get the interview !!
