I am looking at attending the R44 maintenance course this winter. I am just looking for input from anyone who has taken the course. Is it a course worth taking. Do they make good use of your time or do they waste alot of it. Is the training facility well equiped. Are there too many students etc. Can anyone reccommend where to stay.

thanks in advance for any feedback

Since the course is at the factory, there are ample resources available as far as visual aids, U/S parts that have been returned to the factory etc. that they use in the course. They have a few training machines in which you have to perform various tasks on such as rigging checks, t/r runout check. There aren't too many people (I think it was max 15 students) The one downside as a strictly R44 guy, is that they combine the R22 and R44, so some of the visual aids & tasks are strictly R22 oriented. They cram a lot into the 8 day course, but a lot of good little tricks and system explanation. The Ramada aross the street (literally a 5 minute walk to the facility) offers a great rate of $65/night when you tell them you're on the Robbie course. Ph: 310-325-0660. They usually include a factory tour with the course as well.

+1, What they said... Get a rental car while you are down there, as there is a lot to check out around LA after class and on the weekend between. Great course, just too bad it's on Robbies... :P

Dido the two previous posts. Also, if Pat Cox is the instructor, you'll find him to be very knowledgeable and he's not afraid to give it to you straight, including the R44's weak spots.

If you go, ask him why they didn't adapt anchor nuts on the cooling fan shrouds, instead of screws and nuts.

All in all, excellent course!
