I think you are right but also the military version was canned because the price had tripled and that would have been the incentive for the 417 to procede .....read that as being big bucks...so when the military said NO...then the civilian one would have put the bite on the 407 market...read that as shoot yourself in the foot...so when you have a pile of part for a machine you are not going to build...DAH...thank goodness for a company that will take all those parts and do something positive will them and give us civilians a better produce to work with :rolleyes:

Must agree with bag swinger. Maybe the astar will preform a bit better hot and high, but put in the love seat and then you start encountering c of g problems when you load it

up with pax. Not an issue when feet are interlocked.

 

I remember chatting to one of the guys who was somewhat involved in the 417 project when they scrapped it. He basically said that Bell thought the difference in performance didn't justify the added cost. He said they were trying things like 429 blades to try to get it to lift like they had anticipated, but no joy. Maybe Eagle is on to something though. If the hp conversion reduces operating coast and improves hot high performance, maybe the cost of the upgrade would be justified. Only time will tell.

I love the 407 and even if they don't increase the internal or external limits with the Eagle mod, it will make the a/c so much more usefull in the mountains in the summer. As it is right now, you can't use it's weight capacity in the heat of the summer and at high alt. It would be like the D2 mod on the astar. It would make a good helicopter better and more usefull.
