Bif
My biggest regret after many years in the industry is not having a trade or other education to fall back on, for when times get tough or the novelty wears off. With family in tow, it makes a transition more challenging. The only downside is that you either a) need to put in several years getting established in said trade or education, or spend a significant chunk of time away from flying to accomplish the same. I spent 5 years at uni learning geology before chasing the dream (no regrets, by the way!). I've often considered falling back on geology but the thing is I didn't establish myself there so it would be the equivalent of starting as ground crew. Trades would be a different story though, I'm sure.
