Sort of trying to be funny, but there is a serious undertone to that post. While some extol the virtues of helmets, I have yet in my 50 years in the industry seen any serious benefits. I have seen 3 cases where the blades sliced through the helmet ( Gord Wyatt) as if it wasn't even there. The other friends that I have lost, a helmet would have made no difference in the long run. Shock trauma, fire, etc. Get yourself a good headset, cool baseball cap, and be comfortable.

I agree, When your time is up ...its up.. I tried a crash hat and felt that it made my days seem longer especially in the heat..I am much more happier and without one and my cutomers feel so much more safe

I remember one pilot who had a sudden shake in the machine flying in the mountains and his helmet hit the side of the machine hard enough to crack the helmet. I remember another story where a fellow took a bird in the windscreen and the clear visor and helmet probably kept him concious. I think there are alot of people with similar stories.

It isn't all about saving you in a crash. Not that it hurts.

I know of a pilot whose head hit the windshield wiper motor in a wreck. Trashed the helmet. He is alive because of it. People have died in accidents wearing seatbelts. They are in the minority.

I paid off my helmet in 1987- engine failure, into the 50 foot trees, rattled around inside the cockpit hitting my helmet on the door post several times, hopped out and walked home. I always wear one- have Gallet now- had to modify because Frenchmen have small heads.
