The circumstances seem tragic , after surviving an emergency landing in a residential area he crashes trying to leave the area after i'm assuming the plane was fixed.

But who would authorize this.... One would think the plane be taxied if it could to the back forty somewhere before flight was attempted.

Too many details missing on this one to make sense ...

Tough week on Vancouver Island pilots and family's as we lost a Nanaimo flyer in his R22 a couple days ago ....

Be in peace guys ....

Pilot Killed in Yuba City Crash is Identified

Authorities in Sutter County now know the identity of a pilot killed Sunday when his plane crashed during an attempt to take off from a street in a Yuba City subdivision.

The Sutter County Coroner's office has identified the dead man as 78-year old Colin Mayes of Saanichton, British Columbia, Canada.

According to witnesses, Mayes safely landed the Cessna 172 on Claremont Way just before 11 a.m. The street is part of a new subdivision under construction. A few minutes later he taxied the aircraft back up the road and took off. The plane reached a height of about 100 feet, attempted a turn, and then nosedived into an open field adjacent to the subdivision. The aircraft caught fire on impact.

Witnesses said one of the plane's wingtips clipped a street sign during the takeoff roll, but it is unclear what role the damage played in the crash.

Crash investigators are puzzled as to why Mayes landed in the subdivision. They are looking into the possibility that the plane was forced down by a mechanical malfunction.
