Bell214
Hey, I am looking for some information about Rocky Mountain Helicopters. They had a couple 214`s in the 80`s and beginning of the 90`s. What kind of work were they doing? Mining, Logging? Thanks
Helilog56
Based out of Provo, Utah. Yes, a general charter/utility helicopter operator that had a variety of aircraft. The 214 was primarily used for logging......but the accident rate was "huge" within the company (especially logging).....not sure what year they closed their doors? If I recall over the years RMH operated something like 13 214B's and had crashed 12 of them I believe they only ever sold 1, the rest were destroyed. I believe (from what I remember) your close.......when a company pays their flight crews by the "pound"....it is asking for trouble! Between Bell Helicopter, the insurance underwriter, and the F.A.A......also many, many lawsuits, the company was doomed during that era (of poor judgement) !!!! Bell214
There was also S/N 28032, BHC, sold to Rocky ( with JNU) from OKanagan if I remember correctly. BHC became N4434D, JAA9446 and GTWZ. Transwest sod it after the fire season 2008 to PJ Helicopters in California.
helicopterjim
BHC started out at Bow Helicopters - hence the registration - before it went to Okanagan. There is a 214 pilot still flying here in Canada that flew it back in the Bow days. Some interesting stories there .....

Groundresonance
RMH was at one point a huge company doing both utility and EMS. They built a lot of the power lines in the Rocky Mountains, setting the towers and pulling the wire. They also did work up in Alaska. They eventually got bought by Air Methods. Back in the day they operated all sorts of ships including Lamas, Alouettes, S-61's, 500's, etc.
