Best School For Ifr Training

Recommended Posts

Another place to look at in BC is Heli-College in Langley.

I did mine with Pro IFR at Boundary Bay and wasn't thrilled with their service. Pro lets you do 15 of the 20 flight hours in a Cessna which saves huge money (don't need a fixed wing licence either) but because Pro is mainly a fixed wing school, the heli guys get treated like dirt.

Their IFR seminars on the other hand are awesome and highly recommended.

Wow! treated like dirt? In aviation? I'm not buyin this B.S

My experience was good at pro IFR in Victoria. One important aspect was lacking, the 2 crew environment. In the Cessna you the pupil are doing everything, adjusting dials, radios and either flying or telling the instructor exactly what to do. Once you get to Langley with Heli-College ( only 3 hrs left to do) . the new checklists and process of the 2 crew heli rides make for a steeper than comfy learning process. Least for me...If you are in a 2 crew environment all through the process it would be much better. I believe Mountain View is on that program, as well as Heli-College.

As for endorsements, you need to be endorsed on the A/C you are doing the ride on as you will be PIC. Good luck and yes it's nice to understand more about how most of the rest of the world fly, IFR.

So in most cases, I'd have to throw a 44 endorsement into the mix as well?

Yes, but, that won't necessarily take a lot of time.

Also should factor in a night rating, as an IFR is pretty well useless without one...

Cheers

For some reason I thought Night rating would be inclusive with the IFR. Bummer.

Oh well, just means a bigger loan! lol

I'd like to be in a position to fly both. Ultimately though, I think I'd like to fly for law enforcement or ems. But then, who knows where the industry will head, or how my priorities will change...

I have done some training with Red Eagle Aviation on both sides of the border and they were awesome. I would go to their CYBW office for the IFR and I bet they give you an unbeatable deal on your night endorsement and the same time.

Fly safe and have fun.
