Transport Canada Settlements

Recommended Posts

Thanks for that article.

I have been waiting for a long time to see how that Court case would be decided.....then it almost disappears under the radar !!

Hopefully Mr C. won't be working on helicopters anymore....but the Ministry already knew about him well before this particular incident.... yet they let him continue.

Even if he isn't working on helicopters anymore, the Ministry are still inspecting maintenance operators.....or are they???

After a settlement like this, and despite TSB's requests, we'll never really know.

I agree Mr C should never be let near any aviation related product ever again....and it saddens me that TC can simply pay what equates to "hush money" to hide their problems.

Just G.D. sickening! How the government, let alone the courts, can allow innocent people's deaths to go unaccounted for is appaling. There should be no right to settle out of court when negligent death is involved. If one didn't already have a foul taste in one's mouth regarding government, they should certainly have it now. :(

I now understand why TC wants to allow the aviation companies to do their own policing. They apparently realise themselves that they are incapeable of doing it themselves. If they are short of funds to do this job properly then shame on the the bosses who have not been able to force the governments of recent history to provide the proper funds because lives have already been lost due to inadecuate oversight.

Not that I have a strong opinion one way or another..but Transport is always going to be in a no-win situation. When things are going well, people think they are too invasive. If something goes wrong, they aren't doing enough.

Don't kid yourself! TC would all too gladly police the industry even more fully than you can imagine, or would actually want.

And it's not their 'bosses' that are at fault, it's their political masters. You'd need a 'Tenerife' here in Canada, involving Air Canada and Westjet, to get them off their collective a**es and do something about rreal air safety.

Until then, responsible operators policing themselves is one **** of a lot better than before SMS, when TC really policed only the highly visible operators, while the bottom-feeders and short-cutters were allowed to run rampant.
