Hey Mat,

 

Do you mean a "hydraulics check" as in when it's on the ground? If so was it a result of the collective not locked down or something else?

At approximately 11:00 PST, Transport Canada Pacific Region was informed that West Coast Helicopters had just had an accident at their Bella Coola base. An Astar 350 helicopter was preparing for departure with a pilot and 2 passengers aboard. During the hydraulics check, the collective, which controls the pitch of the rotor blades, rose uncontrollably, and the aircraft rolled over on the ramp with the rotors still under power. The aircraft was substantially damaged and one passenger suffered minor injuries. TSB has been notified.

I do it daily with the koala...I'm pretty sure we do it first start of the day on all types. Please correct me if I'm wrong and I'm not being snarky, isn't it commonplace for systems checks to be done on first start? Passengers or no passengers?
