Bif
http://www.edmontonjournal.com/news/Pilot+killed+Drayton+Valley+helicopter+crash/5508644/story.html EDMONTON - A pilot is dead after a helicopter crash Wednesday night near Drayton Valley. Transportation Safety Board spokesman Chris Krepski said there was only the pilot on board the Bell 206 Jet Ranger when it went down about two kilometres south of Drayton Valley’s airport. A 911 call reported the crash at about 6:30 p.m. The pilot died at the scene. Krepski said there was little information available Wednesday night about the incident. A Transportation Safety Board team will travel to the crash site Thursday morning to examine the wreckage. Drayton Valley is about 140 kilometres southwest of Edmonton. Guest 47yrLowTimer
Whats emerged so far is that it was a 206 and there was heavy fog in the area.
SuddenStop
right from the news article.... "Fellow pilots said thick fog made flying conditions treacherous. "The weather was terrible last night," said Larry Beckett who knew the pilot. "But that's what we do. "We call it pushing the weather and we understand the risks of what we do. We're not stupid." Beckett said the crash has left him distraught. " I think some things are best left unsaid to the media....it casts a terrible shadow amongst those who don't push the weather. ForFreeRum
I cannot believe someone would have such lack of judgement to say to the media that "its what we do.....Its called pushing the weather". Generally it is NOT what we do, because it will get you killed!! Hope this guy Beckett never comes looking for a job with anyone I know.
Freefall
Sometimes when people are upset they say things without realizing how it is coming across. Sincerest condolences to everyone effected by this terrible accident.
rotorhead212
Condolences to family and friends of the pilot. 579 views on a thread about the same topic over at avcanada, not one member could comment, I guess common courtesy is only extended over there if its a fatal fixed wing accident...
