What News From Se Asia?

Any news from SE Asia? Last I heard from a few friends is that they were working out of Thailand (Phuket?). CHC has a base there does it not? How did they make out?

CHC main base is on the East Coast at Songkla - rumour has it all OK - gotta really worry about all the Ken Borek Twin Otter on floats folks in the Maldives. No news about them. Float base near the airport which was badly hit - Anyone heard anything?

I'm still waiting to hear but I know comunications are difficult..

CHC Songkhla base all OK. We have been flying 1 61 and 1 76 on relief work and medevac duty out of Phuket and Kao Lak. I was there yesterday, it is really grim and the death toll goes up by the hour.

Talked with a Buddy of mine from here, who works for KBA. He's shipping back out to Mali this week.

 

The latest is that all KBA personnel are fine. Couple of the Twotters did get some minor damage, but all are back to airworthy.

 

Latest reports are that some of the outer island resorts are flattened, basically BER.

 

From the looks of things, they'll be flying humanitarin missions for the foreseeable future.

 

I most happy that things worked out for a lot of people. On the other hand, I am deeply saddened that so many have lost their lives. Its especially heart wrenching to view the loss of the children.

 

My thoughts go out to the families.

 

For those of you floggin over there, especially you float drivers, be careful! The water will be very treacherous with things floating and hidden just below the surface.

 

Every body be safe, and come home in one piece.

The devastation is amazing... and tragic... and such a large death toll already.

Have been in email contact with friend on Maldives. He said all the force was gone out of it by the time it hit, due mainly to the coral reef (which is now dead I suppose}
