Bell 206 Power Check Calculator

Recommended Posts

Not sure where you are coming from H 56. If I can eye ball a chart to see if my engine is good why not use an app. W&B is done with spead sheets why not a power check. Get this app completed and I will purchase it. I would rather have guys doing a power check with a app than not doing one with a chart or the wrong chart.

PS make sure you clearly put the applicable supplements into the system.

Maybe the concern should be with respect to how often power checks even get done. I know everyone here is a professional pilot, or will profess to be, but I watch the books quite closely. Take a look at your journey log book and see who in your company actually does a regular power check.

I recently crewed a machine that didn't have a power check entered in 9 months. In that 9 months there was two engine changes (rental and everhauled) and a fuel control change. No power check entered. Maybe none completed. Who knows???

I question my crew changes about why they didn't do a power check during their entire tour. The answer I really love hearing is, "umm, well like, umm actually umm.... well....yeah....umm............I did". Oh yeah, so where is it? Why isn't it entered in the journey log? What good is it if it's not doccumented? Truth is you didn't do one dumb a**!!!

The iPhone app doesn't preclude you or prevent you from doing the power heck.

When you want to check the results use the POH or use the App.

If you want it to take longer and be less accurate use the pen and paper method.

If you want speed and accuracy use the app.

If you don't want to use te app, don't. I'm not forcing anyone here.

All this negative cynicism is uncalled for.

On the contrary it is being done first of all to "lighten everyone up" and to show that technology is not the end all. As for speed and accuracy, how is the phone going to be more accurate and faster than the old tried and true paper and pen? It still relies on the operator entering the information properly. I equate it as a hamster with a food pellet. Enter the information correctly here's the food pellet. You don't enter it correctly, no food pellet and you have no idea why. Here is a great example of technology in action. Over 100 AME students have been asked how many pieces of wire 4 ft long can be made from a wire 36 feet long. 30% can do it in their heads, the rest are the hamster looking for the food pellet or at the least, their calculator. By the way, its 9.

Ya know, they invented something called the computer specifically for those reasons. This app will give you your results before your rotor stops and be more accurate without the human error factor just as long as you enter the proper numbers. This is a great idea! Get with the times. The FAA already accept the iPad 2 as an electronic flight bag.
