NTSB  and the US sytem of accident investigation is by no means better then TSB am afraid.  How many accident investigation agencies "allow" the engine from accident machine to go to the engine manufactures for "analysis".  You won't see that in Canada.

Really? I guess you havn't had much experience with accident investigation then! Or do I not understand the semantics of your response.

HJ;

Been directly involved in investigations on "both" sides of the border, VFR helicopter. Would rather be on the Canadian side and would rather not get into the specifics. But have not seen one engine in Canada taken directly from the crash site to manufacturers for check, usually it will go there in time after the TSB and insurance company have had there way with it. In the US they have an "agreement" with manufacturers to have it sent there directly. They assume there will be no conflict of interest.

Just mho

I know the instance that seems to have you worked up Skully and I concur. I had an engine explode and it was sent to the facility that overhauled it for teardown... with a company representative present, along with someone from the manufacturer and a TC guy.

I recall that we wanted to have a third party there for the teardown of the engine that you are alluding to and it was specifically denied... which, to this day, strikes me as strange.

P.S. Your familiar IMHO reminds me of a quote from an unknown source..."He was a humble man... with good reason..."

P.P.S. Talk to you in a couple of weeks when I get home...
