Deep Throat II
How many of you, either Operators or plain old crew would be interessted in a cheap (Under $2000) satellite tracking system for the helicopter, where someone could log on to a website and for Minimal cost see exactly where you are. ( oh boy this is gonna open a can of worms) Let me know what you think. DTII
Deep Throat II
I should add that these sytems work in the same way as a sat phone would, not continously transmiting but every 10 seconds or so the same way you cell hits a base station. Phil Croucher
Yes, please! We check cellphone locations at the moment, but this would be easier. Phil
412driver
would be nice to track students when they are on their long solo cross countries
Deep Throat II
Good to see the interest as well as possible different uses, Thanks Guys. DTII
GoldMember
I'd be all for it, no more iced-up repeaters in the winter and a centralized dispatch system.
RDM
The system is pure magic, there are a few variations of it on the market. Most now incorporate cell phone, your position in lat and long, speed, alititude and direction of flight. All of which as someone said earlier can be tracked by anyone on the web for a small fee. Skidz
This system could have positive implications as far as SAR goes. If there's some sort of database that keeps track of "last known position" at a 10 sec interval, if someone goes missing, the search area will be quite small. Reminds me of the guy a couple of years ago who left Montreal on a ferry flight to North Bay and never made it. They found the A/C over a year later. Same thing happened in New Brunswick, but the delay was even longer before they located the wreckage. We'll never know, but maybe some lives could've been saved had the crash sites been found immediately after the crash. What it all boils down to though is cost and weight... Deep Throat II
The weight on this unit without batteries (2 AA) would be about 650 grams, and cost would be under 2000 Cdn.
skullcap
If the system works in remote(non cell coverage areas) and is approved I would be interested. sc
