Big Company Sold!

Recommended Posts

I guess there are some who know the direction that VIH is going but they are not saying. Might well be that they are getting out of the VFR single engine market. I did read somewhere that about half the helicopter work world wide is IFR, not sure how that is split up between on shore/off shore but it's a huge slice of the pie. Since Cougar is owned by the same company as VIH (i think...) maybe they are throwing their hat into that market full on.

Could have something to do with the revenue that can be realised in two sectors they are involved with. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that a long term IFR contract is better that scrapping with some company from eastern Canada for a four or so month contract at half the going rate. You just have to look at "old" Canadian and what a success they have become as CHC, they too shed themselves of their VFR side.

Someone did mention "it's just paint and the work is still there", but maybe not if the company that buys them is in the habit of paying lower wages and hires guys from down under.... Why does our government make it so easy for companies to get around hiring Canadian pilots at a fair wage?

About the paint, it's funny to see where some of the machines end up. A few years ago i saw a few old Frontier machines (one Jetranger still in Frontier colors) in Terrace. Does anyone remember those Frontier 205's with the orange doors? Brings back some memories....

I do wish the affected crew all the best during the transition.

Gotcha. I do remember that now. They have been, and still are, very hot and horny to go and fly around in the fog while pulling the guts out of their machines. They would not be the first operator to run their machines at a loss in the hopes of establishing a presence in an area. From what I've seen, Stewart is rather cliquey, it's hard to just show up and go to work.

Their eastern presence is not Mustang, but the other 'Coast to Coast' companies.

Just so you know, Mustang's sister companies out east pays very well. Thay actually match the wages out west. And WE do not pull the guts out of our machine's,that woudn't be nice...

True and they are serious about safety which goes hand in hand with pulling the guts out. Simply not allow by intention at least!

As for NMH, how can there be a comparible situation to VIH? All just assumptions

VIH is only restructuring for a different market from my viewpoint anyhow.

As for compensation, Mustangs sister companies are competitive with many other reputable companies, I know cause I!ve worked for both!

It's no rumor. I'm just curious, how many people will go to mustang from vih.

What's got me worried is mustang giving away a B2 for 900 something a hour. I don't imagine the pilots are getting top dollar, if the machines are generating that little revenue. Myself, I'm worried that mustang will come in with those low rates, wipe out the local operators that pay their employees well. Cause they are giving away machine's at half the rate they should be at, and then we all end up working at the walmart of helicopters, for minimum wage.

One could assume from your post that VIH's rates are and have always been on the high end of the scale and that they have never "given machines away". Is that correct?

Also, Mustang's pay is actually very competitive, at least for engineers.

I have no idea the workings of VIH. I've never actually heard anyone talk about their rates. I've never heard anyone say good things about them, or for that matter bad things.

I get the impression you were hinting at something though? Do tell.

It's good to hear that mustangs got competitive pay. Makes things allot better for us bus drivers.

You shouldn't say truth like that, you will end up with little minds like "the pup" and "crackedspar" trying to get on with these guys and ending up working beside them and getting the "badmouthing" straight to your ears instead of just reading their stoupid rumors

Discovery Air just purchased Northern Air support for 9.4 Million

What does that have to do with VIH selling off machines? LOL.

And for the record, accusing someone of pulling the guts out of a machine is not very professional and goes against the code of conduct on these forums. And who doesnt fly in some fog in Stewart? Nobody would get to work if we didn't. Its just common sense to not push it when you have no outs or are unfamiliar with the area. Having your low vis routes is part of the game up there.

I wish Mustang well with their new investment.

You really want to say something like that? You must be very big, very tough, very rich or perhaps you are just plain stupid.
