Renewing A Group 4 Instrument Rating

Looking for some clarification please,

Is it possible to renew a group 4 instrument rating prior to it expiring with a DACP or a DFTE?

Does the DACP or DFTE need to be endorsed on the aircraft that the ride is taking place on?

If they have been giving the IFR rides then yes.

 

They have to be rated if they are to be grading the ride. We do them here, and the examiner sits in the back (lotsa room) but he had to get a type rating first.

 

If you don't expressively NEED it, you can let it lapse for LESS than 2 years, and do your renewal then, to keep things cheaper. Also, If you get a job where you need an IFR, your PPC on type will count as well. Save you the dough.
