Helicopter Pilot & Life Insurance

Recommended Posts

I have recently been told about this place called Professional Pilot Insurance Plan in Okotoks. It has by far the best rate to cover you while flying if it's legit. Anyone have any experience with them?

http://www.ppip.ca/

I have talked to multiple insurance brokers, including ones that use Sunlife and as soon as they find out your a pilot landing off airport at unprepared sites the rates go through the roof. If you never got an aviation questionnaire with your life insurance I would have a good read over the underwriting on your plan.

I am insured with PPIP. The requirement is to be holding an ATPL licence. I have $250K coverage for $55.00 a month. Excellent plan.

The ATPL only restriction has been lifted. You can also apply if you hold a commercial license with a class one medical.

Worth every penny IMO.

Not trying to stir the pot. I'm wondering about the wording? If you lets say get diagnosed with a terminal illness then your class 1 is no longer valid. Then the insurers won't have to pay out? All my dealings with insurance companies have been negative ones. It's unfortunate that you need a team of lawyers just to figure out the wording of the contract now days.

Not sure of the legalities post diagnosis per say. I was quoting the criteria for being eligible to apply. ATPL or a Commercial license with valid class 1 medical.
