If your plan is to build your own from a used shell, the only consideration when buying used from eBay is that the shell not be cracked or otherwise damaged and that the canvas and earcups are ok. You're gonna want to change almost everything else in it anyways...

Oh yeah, almost forgot. If you buy a used helmet, make sure it has high impedance earphones and either an amplified dynamic or electret mike. Unless of course you're planning on changing them out...

can you fit a helmet into a 300?

I would think so. I'm about 6'2" and barely fit a R22 with a helmet on, and the 300 has more head room from what I hear.

Got one in 97 and same price today. Do spend the extra few bucks for the coil cord/ Straight cord is a total pain in some aircraft.

 

Also I would recomend a dual visor. Just putting in a conversion to dual now. A buzzard in the face is no joke, although it sounds amuzing
