A recent job posting finished up with:

"If interested, please forward a current resume which shall include, age, marital statues and current references to"

While it's no secret that we all have preferences for the kind of people we hire, there are some things that you're REALLY best not to ask for as part of the application process.

Just throwing it out there.

In fact, I'm pretty sure it's illegal for an employer to ask those questions.

**Edit**

Actually, "illegal" may not be the best word.

BC also isn't as clear about what can/can't be asked:

"How to Respond to Inappropriate Questions

Because there is no explicit or clear indication that employers in B.C. are not allowed to ask questions related to your race, sex or any other protected ground, an outright refusal to answer such questions may not be your best option.

You can most certainly let the employer know the question is inappropriate or you may want to ask how the question relates to the position you’re applying for. For example if you’re applying for a job as a receptionist and you’re asked how many children you have, you can ask the employer how that information pertains to the position you’re applying for. Perhaps the underlying concern is around attendance. In this case we’d suggest highlighting your past attendance records and your ability to do the job as opposed to answering the direct question."

Civil aviation is federally regulated so the Canadian Human Rights Act applies. When you consider how they are likely to be swamped with applications from every low-timer in the country and the number of rejected applications that will ensue, they are opening themselves up to a long list of human rights complaints, especially if those unsuccessful folks took a screenshot of the post before they are able to edit it.
