Try This With Westjet.....

Recommended Posts

Once again, the freedom loving, free enterprise province of Alberta has come out with the rates that they are going to pay for helicopters in 2014.

I wonder if they do the same with Westjet or Air Canada?

Some of the lowballers out there will think these are pretty good rates.

Others will mutter that these are fair rates.

Some will have consulted with their TFW's, determined that Alberta has always done this, so why rock the boat?

What we as an industry should be doing is seriously questioning how and why we are being put in a position where the customer is dictating the rates they will pay for our equipment.

Where is HAC?????????

Why are they not screaming to the public that the operators cannot live on 90's rates or negotiating minimums, or averaging minimums.?

Check the website - quickly if you are not paying them dues because it is looks like it will be totally private before long. Their concerns - flight/duty times, how to bring in foreign workers, and now employee contracts. Big surprise. We will take it out on the employees, what are they going to do about it? Why are they not bringing their own members into line? It is a lot easier to beat up on the crews.

So obviously someone has this exact setup and has marketed it to the ASRD. Who the foxtrot is driving this thing around? Phoenix's new bandaid wagon? Blackcomb's new ride? Canadian's forthcoming set? I thought they were all for BC Hydro, LNG, and Ft Mac stuff. IFR and NVIS seems a bit strange.

So wait, let me get something straight you want the operators to tell ESRD what there rates should be? I think that happens once every 3 years and its called bidding contracts. I also believe there is a aster on there for 1300 a hour, 407s there for 1450 a hour, and and wait pretty sure some of the 212's right around the 2000 mark. So now lets go to ESRD with our own rates and see how that works for what we think we should get payed for the aircraft. I can already tell you, the way the markets are and the amount of people I see sitting around fire bases all across Alberta, people will go to the extreme of 200 or 300 dollars less then the rates published to get work. Do i agree with any of the rates, no. But this is the world we live in, and really its no fare off what I see for normal rates on day to day operations.

AS350B3DH $2,325.00 $1,975.00

I love smoke and mirrors ..... here is the description of this model helicopter! Pretty cool .... but not entirely true.

The high-performance member of the Ecureuil family, the AS350 B3 outclasses all other single engine helicopters for performance, versatility, safety and competitive acquisition and maintenance costs. It excels in hot conditions and very high altitudes, and broke records when a standard production aircraft landed on the top of Mount Everest in 2005 (altitude: 29,029 ft / 8,848 m).

From my experience in this industry the customers are never happy paying for a helicopter. Even when companies are undercutting each other with low rates. There is only one reason the customer uses helicopters. It's because they have to, not because they want to.

So maybe HAC and the operators should put more time and effort into standardizing rates. Instead of cutting costs by hiring TWFs and crazy employment contracts.

So what exactly is wrong with these rates? 1910.00 dry for a AS350B2?? Maury and 2007 what kind of rates are your company(s) getting for your aircraft compared to SRD's rates?

Perhaps HAC's not doing anything about because no one is complaining about the rates SRD is paying!!

You also want to know the best part.......you DO NOT HAVE TO FLY FOR THESE RATES!!! That's right you have every right to REFUSE to fly for SRD! But I'm sure you know that and have already made that decision, right?
