Heli-Raiser

If You Were In My Shoes...

Recommended Posts

Im bassed in Europe. Is the work situation realy so diferent in Canada?

Well, for one thing, Canada is much larger than Europe ... the odds are that any flying job that Heli-Raiser might be able to find will be far away from where he (and his wife) currently live.

Also, for better or worse, Canada has many more pilots per capita than most countries. I can't speak for Europe, but here we have a surplus of qualified pilots, all of whom of course want well-paying jobs with good working conditions, etc. etc. Jobs in or near the cities are especially few and far between (particularly for helo pilots).

Too many pilots seeking too few jobs = a very competitive marketplace. That's the way that it has been for the past 85-odd years, and probably the way that it always will be.

If you don't follow your heart, you will forever go through life asking yourself, 'what if...'

Just do it.

Just do it.

If only life were that simple! But there will be significant consequences to this decision, which must be carefully weighed and considered.

I agree that more people tend to regret not doing something, than those who regret doing something.

Given consideration to earlier thoughts, in the end swingline and hover-pig are probably on the mark!

And BTW - I was only half kidding when I said at the beginning - get out while you can!

There are more and more "base jobs" available in the north if you and your family are willing to relocate. I'm home every night and often off on weekends. Keeps the family happy, I make good coin, and I get to watch the little one slobber and spit up at every feed . Love the north!

I don't know which "Canada" you're living in Swingline but from where I'm standing, the only pilot surplus I see is 100hr wonders! Qualilfied experienced pilots are as abundant as honest politicians.

I don't know about you but making $75000 to $100000 a year doesn't seem like there's a whole lot of competition going on between pilots!

You must've been refering to newly licensed folks.....
