I used to have a 296, then Garmin stopped supporting it, so I upgrade to 695, then Garmin decided to stop supporting that, so that's when I decided to ditch the Garmin eco system. Won't be long before 796 won't be supported any more. iPad running ForeFlight is a much better solution and much more versatile, as it can do so much more than just a moving map. Flying in the low level environment is dangerous and its where i spend 90% of my time so any extra steps are a distraction that i try to avoid.

That’s where most of us spend 90% of our time bud. Hydro line maintenance, fire suppression, you name it....

ScottyDont 7
I see robotxts point though, having the "mark location" button is simpler and you don't need to zoom and look at your map while you try and hit the exact location. Having said that, turning the VNC off and having the google earth style map would work for pin pointing a landmark on the ground. Ei creek, swamp, cabin etc.
Saifan Pilot 110
If you want an excellent moving map that uses offline Natural Resources Canada topographical maps and that can add waypoints with a dedicated button, check out Gaia GPS: https://www.gaiagps.com https://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/gaia-gps-hiking-hunting-maps/id1201979492?mt=
