Yes tip powered blades were once a method of putting extra power into the rotor system.....can't remember which company started it but I remember seeing an old article on them in my helicopters class. Kinda scary I must admit

I saw them FIRE it up last year at the Vertical Challenge Helicopter Airshow in San Carlos... "kinda scary"? ...no, TERRIFYING! :shock:
