Road To Yellowknife

Hey Guys

 

Kinda curious what the road is like between High Level and Yellowknife? I might have to make the trek shortly. Or is it simply easier to fly in? Input much appreciated gang!

I only got as far as Hay River. I'm told the pavement ends at Fort Providence, and from there it's 300 km and change on a "good" gravel road to "The Knife".

 

FYI, Buffalo Air, the cheapest air carrier from Hay River charges $300 return...

Walk to the nearest general aviation hangar, ask bob for the keys, borrow his 172

or you are a cook and let one of the catering companies fly you in ,work two weeks and check the heli companies after or before working!!!!!!!

Wich other companies are up there besides great Slave helicopters????

I did the drive about for years ago. Its not bad if you don't mind long and straight. There was quite a stretch of gravel, but I have heard its paved now. Even if it is still gravel, its still good to drive on.

The road should be about all paved by now. It's actually a nice drive if you've never done it before. Gets boring after the 4th or 5th time. High Level is the last major stop until Yellowknife.

 

Stop by and see us when you drive through High Level. We're the only hangar on the west side of the highway just before the airport. Hopefully one of us will be here if you come by.

Sure do. And I may take the time to go up there to try out those two places you told me about. You know, the ones I thought were heli operators until I read the names ?

Never been that far. Can't say how the road is.

 

Fireweed is up there somewhere... at least they were up there. Don't know if that's changed.
