407 Driver
Global BC just reported that a water Bucket departed a 212 aircraft and landed on a Penticton Street, no property damage. The 212 landed in a school yard and retreived the bucket. We'll be hearing more about this through BCFS !
407 Driver
Why blame the Engineer so fast MAG? Maybe it was a pilot problem this time? Not sure where that companys cargo hook/ accessory releases are located, ours are on the collective, so rules out the radio switch. "Penticton Tower, ABC is 3 north ..oops " Even my 407 has a collective mounted accessory release, very handy.

That would be the only reason to ever fly over a built up area with a load on the hook.
407 Driver
The News report ( always 100 % accurate ) was mentioning that the 12 was northbound to the 25 Ha West Kelowna fire.
putz
Reporters are always correct!!!!!!!! The chicky on Global said the helicopter was owned by Tasman which would make it a 212 but the bucket it was hauling when it fell off was a 1000 gallon size. I want one of those super lifter 212's tasman owns!!!

Skidz
Are we certain it was on the hook ? I'd be surprised they'd fly over a built-up area with a line. I seem to remember that being a no-no... Could it be it fell out an open door or something silly like that ? Maybe it fell off the back of a pickup truck and the '12 just happened to be flying overhead at the same moment...
407 Driver
Putz, I heard 1,000 Liters, but my hearing isn't what it used to be...so my wife says. They also showed a KA-32 on the news report. Regardless, it shows some benefits of a Belly Tank when fighting fire in urban areas.
