Accident at Edson Airport

Just saw this about a crash at the Edson airport a couple days ago. Astar working for forestry. Any word on the cause? Judging by the video it looks like a fast downwind approach but could be other factors.

Looks like vortex ring state. Downwind approach, watching the dust fly after the crash I'd say 20kts+ Just initial thought...

I was speaking with the guy who filmed it and he said a microburst happened at that moment and people on the other side of the airport were thrown to the ground.

Occurrence Summary:

C-FAVX, a Range Helicopters Inc. Airbus Helicopters AS350-B2, was returning to the Edson

airport (CYET), AB, from a staging area supporting firefighting operations to the east of Edson, AB.

On approach to CYET the pilot elected to expedite his arrival routing due to incoming fixed wing air

traffic. On the final approach to landing, the helicopter entered a descent that resulted in a hard

landing and roll-over. The pilot survived with minor injuries; the helicopter was substantially

damaged. Post impact, the engine continued to run and was subsequently shut down. The ELT

activated; there was no post-impact fire.
