Seat Comfort In A 500

Hi guys, anyone got an idea what these seats are like to use for a long period slinging in a 500? Heard a rumour you can't get three across the front tho ?? What are some of the tricks (seating wise) out there for getting rid of that lower back pain

Hey there TT.....the mesh seats are actually quite nice in the hot weather, but as you pointed out with that configuration, you can not get that 3rd person in the front/middle if need be. The cushion(s) are definetely better suited if your hanging your head out the door all day, as you can shift your body a bit more. As for back problems, wow, you are opening a door there. Every "body" is different, as i find so many pilots trying cushions, pads, back braces, harnesses, etc. My way of coping with it is to stay fit, good core strength, and flexibility really helps keep back problems at bay (ya right..listen to "Doc56"?).....

When I worked for a small company in the past, the owner kept sending the seats away and getting them re-stuffed until they were just right.

 

It made a huge difference in comfort having the right kind of new foam in there.

 

Most 500's these days seem to have seats that squash down flat within 5 minutes and you end up feeling all the vibrations in your ***.

Over 7000 hrs in 500's and never had a problem. Broke my back in a B206L-1.

I've tried both and I prefer mesh for the ventilation factor, but 56 has the secret...strong core and good health...works for me as well

Agree core strenght. Situps, pushups, stretches, also helps pass the time in camp.

 

If found the mush sag when they wear and you end up getting the metal support in your a*s, your leg goes numb and it sucks. Most 500 seats also suck, years of being squished and cheap re-stuffing. If I was going to fly the 500 alot again, I would inverst in an Oregon Aero seat. after market, unbelievable, can fly 8's day after day and not feel broken in half . They are alittle spendy at 700 bucks, but it is your back.

 

 

I knwo acouple of guys who have them and swear by them. I thought the thing was really good when I got to try it.
