mohave green
I think the best way to deal with Contrail is when a Contrail client calls for a helicopter, politely explain to the client that there will be an extra charge of 2000 dollars a day(an amount similar to which an oil patch consultant would receive) to help pay for the experienced pilot they are requesting. After all, you dont go to a restaurant and order a meal with an extra scoop of potatoes and not pay for it. Safety is the idea here and no one will argue with that, but make the client put his money where his mouth is. Im sure Contrail and the client will be able to figure it out from there. kjw57
The best way to get rid of them is to become them. A competative force that ensures safety and productivity. So quit your mundane daily routine of flying for a living and enter the fray as an aviation safety consultant.... Why Not? pay's probably not too shaby for a qualified networker. Although employing consultants with industry specific experience is a bit of an oxymoron for the O&G industry.
chopper_guy
getting the DOT or ATAC to fight these Contrail/Oil company regulations will never work. These are rules that will supposedly make for a safer operation. No-one is going to legislate against them, no matter how stupid or inefficient they are. The only thing to do is to follow them to the letter. when the operation grinds to a halt because their wx minimums are set too high changes will rapidly be made. Maybe when the oil companies see that Contrail has their head up their *** they will dump them and sanity will return to the industry.
