DEUX-MONTAGNES, Que. — Three people have suffered serious injuries in a helicopter crash near Montreal.

The helicopter crashed onto an ice-covered lake Friday afternoon near Deux-Montagnes, a bedroom community just northwest of Montreal.

The helicopter went down just after 4 p.m. and rescue services were on the lake within an hour.

Police say the accident happened when the aircraft was flying at low altitudes and one of its skids touched the ice.

One of the injured is reportedly in critical condition.

The wreckage had partially sunk through the ice late Friday after the injured were removed and recovery crews were trying to determine how to safely pull the damaged helicopter to shore.

It wasn't an Astar. It was in fact a R44, probably privately owned. 3 injured including one in a critical state.

Apologies.

I read another headline, that didn't link to a story, that stated it was an A-Star. As I read this story, it indeed, makes no reference to an A-Star.

Here's a link to the LCN news report in French. Privately-owned R44. Flying fast and low over frozen lake, skid caught snow-bank, dynamic roll-over. Witnesses at the scene say the pilot was hot-dogging, buzzing folks ice-fishing. These guys are lucky to be alive. The machine almost went through the ice...

Hopefully the pilot was not part of any helicopter-related associations <_<
