Think he might have wore the starter out...anyone notice the 80 second crank to get the beast started???

 

 

Probably why he is standing outside, he is ready to run away if something goes wrong.

Any body have any idea of what that thing is sticking out from the tail boom extension, above the turtle back??

 

I've never seen blades with what appears to be counter weights on them either!! Am I seeing things that aren't there or is it just Old Timers??

 

Earlier C's have the nav lights mounted on the boom support.

If I had to guess, I'd say that photograph is of a Viking Helicopters 500C parked at the training base in Kenora, ON circa 1975. Am I close?

 

Dewey:

Photo came via the Late Geoff Palmer who trained with Viking in Kenora so I would say Kenora is correct.

If my memory is correct it would have been 74. Does the 47 photo help?

 

If I recall they lost a 47 to a training accident when Geoff was in Kenora so that may help pin the date down. Perhaps Don would recall.
