Helicopter crashes in Quebec's north killing two people

RADISSON, Que. -- An injured passenger used a satellite phone to call for help after the helicopter he was travelling in crashed, killing two people, Quebec provincial police said Monday.

 

Three others were injured, police said. The helicopter belonged to an outfitter and the cause of the crash wasn't yet known.

 

Three other helicopters from the outfitter and helicopters from provincial police and the Canadian army were en route to the accident scene.

 

Radisson is about 1,300 kilometres north of Rouyn-Noranda in northernwestern Quebec.

Found this on the wire today. In French only. Essentially, the pilot (Jean Aubert) and guide (Richard Leblanc) were killed. The four pax suffered minor injuries. Nothing on the TSB site so far. I read in a local paper the a/c belongs to Heli-Horizon. Never heard of them before.

(Guy Champoux) 1/25/2005. Il s’agit du pilote de l’appareil, Jean Aubert, 28 ans, de Saint-Nicolas et du guide de la pourvoirie Mirage, Richard Leblanc, 30 ans de Rivière Saint-Jean, qui ont péri dans l'écrasement du véhicule survenu vers 15 h 25 lundi à 500 kilomètres à l'est de Radisson.

 

Les quatre passagers qui se trouvaient à bord de l'appareil ont subi des blessures légères et l'agent Hugues Beaulieu de la sûreté du Québec raconte les circonstances du sauvetage.

 

"Les six personnes ont été récupérées par deux hélicoptères d'une compagnie privée qui sont arrivés sur les lieux très rapidement. Les six personnes ont été transportées à LG4 ou l'on a constaté le décès du pilote de l'hélicoptère et du guide."

L'appareil avec à son bord le pilote et cinq passagers s'est écrasé à environ 60 milles au sud-est de La Grande-4. Le pilote et un passager ont subi des blessures mortelles. Les quatre autres passagers ont subi des blessures mineures. L'appareil a subi des dommages importants.
