Looking For Guard Dogs And Dogettes

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm Vertical's newest contributing editor and am working on an upcoming story featuring National Guard pilots and mechanics (engineers to you folks up Nawth). We're going to look at the impact of the extended war in Iraq on the lives of these folks, and on the operators who employ them.

Are you-- or do you know anyone who is -- a guard pilot or mech who would be willing to talk with me about their experience?

Please PM me.

Very best,

Michael Maya Charles

Welcome to Vertical Magazine and the forums, Mr. Charles! You have quite an interesting "Why Flight?" story yourself! Will look forward to your Guard story and others. Should be an interesting read! Continued success to you. :)

Another Coloradoan! Yeehaw! :punk:

TQN - Thanks for the welcome (I think...).

Surely...(or is it Shirley?), you know of at least ONE swing-wing guard dog or dogette that would like to be famous, eh?

Best,

Micheal,

I think you have very little response on this site due the fact most of us are Canadian in here. No guard program in this neck of the woods. Not, that our neighbours to the South are not welcome here, but they mostly hang out on Verticalreference.com

You think? HA!

Yes, I do know a Guardsman, non-pilot, non-active. But if I were you, which I'm not :P, I'd go straight to the proverbial horse's mouth. You no doubt already have these links. I don't believe you have to be a Guard member to register, but I could be wrong.

The Guard’s Forums:

Talk with a Guardsman (who could, perhaps, point you in the right direction):

Back issues of Guard Experience magazine (might glean a nugget or two from):

http://www.1800goguard.com/downloads/magazine.php

And if not comfortable with that route, T-Rex is right. Post here:

Military Forum at VertRef:

I'd imagine that perhaps Guardsmen/Guardswomen might be a bit...ahem...guarded...in discussing such matters, for a variety of reasons. Could be wrong there, too.

Your legwork is cut out for you! Good luck! :)

Thanks, T-Rex; I've posted over at Verticalreference, as well.

I'll see if I can herd some more of us "southerners" into the forums.

Thanks,

Michael

TQN,

Dang! Why bother Googling when we have wonderful folks like you on this forum?

Thanks for the leads. Now, all I have to do is follow-up on them!

Best,

Funny how my little pea brain works. I read--"Looking For Guard Dogs And Dogettes". Didn't bother to look any farther. I do remember wondering why anyone in their right mind would be looking for a guard dog on a helicopter website. I go have little nap now. :(:(:(

Split,

Got a great chuckle out of your post. Enjoy your little nap....zzzzzz

Best,

Flattery will get you everywhere. :D HA!

Perhaps fire off an email inquiry to National Guard media contact here:

http://www.ngb.army.mil/media/default.aspx

BTW, there ARE a few Guard pilots at VertRef; don't know 'em but they seem to be a nice bunch. ;)

Last, but not least...from your own backyard, the Colorado Army National Guard...an email contact for Office of Public Affairs: robert.bell@us.army.mil

Doh! And don't forget Buckley Field! http://www.cobuck.ang.af.mil/

Okeedokee. Can't wait to read the story!
