Guest Angry Egg Driver
How come some 407's have the china hat on the main rotor and some don't?The difference in weight is 100 lbs or so I think.
407 Driver
It is optional to remove it, you can save about 60 lbs by removing it, but you do get a bit of a 4-per vibration. We have 3 aircraft without them, and 4 with them. I've flown both, and do prefer leaving it installed. The rotor system is similar to the OH-58D ...it flies without. 407 too
china hat weighs next to nothing, but the frahm damper (**** frapner) is that big piece of metal up there that has all the weight. china hat keeps stuff out of the springs, no need for hat if damper is removed
rainman
I'm flying one at the moment that has it removed. I far prefer having it on as it's much smoother, She humps like a bell medium coming down the hill while heli-skiing. I'd rather lose 50-60 lbs fuel and have the frahm. So AED, how do ya like it so far?
Guest Angry Egg Driver
Well i did my endorsement and 2 days later was out the door swinging bags. After a hundred hrs i'm digging it.Still miss the comfort of the Astar and miss looking through my little hole in the floor. So not totally converted yet but it is nice to fly and has lots of power. 407 Driver
AED, are you using a bubble window? Do you have a "check instrument" light mounted outside? How about those new fangled pedal extenders?
Guest Angry Egg Driver
All our machines have the bubble windows with the cutouts in the bottom.Nice to see out of but a little ackward with the helmet on.Took a bit of getting used to swinging my head in to look at the kodiak and the gauges. I was talking to a friend that is flying one of E&B's 407 and they have an audible tone for their limiting factors set up much like a lot of the Asatr B2's have. I have never heard of the pedal extenders?
407 Driver
I've heard that the 417 will come with the audible tones installed for limitation warning. We use an outside light now, it works well for all engine parameters. The pedal extenders allow you to stretch out your legs ...like in a 206L... PARAVIAN makes them. Plinko
I agree PT They definitely make it more comfortable..but they look like someones kid designed them with his mechano set! Why not just do it right from the start? Funny how the things that work are always an after thought. P
