Since my days of logging and surveying with nothing but DEET and melting my lid every six months I can't stand the stuff anymore....nevermind going to bed with the stuff stuck to you if a shower wasn't available. I was flying "Bush" machines with no leather or cloth so I and my cohorts usually landed where the wind was the best or in the shade and lit a coil. Pick your poison I know. Failing that you gotta have that light weight bug net with the visor for your face and camp out under the machine.

 

I did years of tree planting in Northern Alberta and after a while I just repositioned to a river usually .1 or less away and was always good for a breeze.

And lots of it. Eat it and rub it all over yourself. Skidders will never come close.
