Helicopter crashes in northeastern Quebec; one person seriously injured

LONGUE-POINTE-DE-MINGAN, Que. (CP) - A helicopter with four occupants crashed in northeastern Quebec on Sunday, leaving one person in serious condition.

Quebec provincial police said the pilot used a satellite phone to call them to say the chopper had gone down about 50 kilometres north of Longue-Pointe-de-Mingan on Quebec's North Shore.

Police spokeswoman Manon Gaignard said Canadian Forces were also to be called and that access to the crash site was difficult.

This map is for others like myself who didn't know where Longue-Pointe-de-Mingan was.

It's great that the pilot had a satellite phone. I know my company is too cheap to equip our fleet with sat phones. Safety, safety, safety unless it's gonna cost us some $$$'s. Every pilot and safety rep in this industry should demand one in every aircraft working in remote areas beyond cell coverage.

Hope the seriously hurt individual get thru it okay.

Apparently not :( The original story has been revised, condolences to loved ones, family & friends. Especially tragic if this account is true, that he survived the landing and was clipped exiting.

Three other people were on board for a hunting trip. Another occupant was injured.

Quebec provincial police said the pilot used a satellite phone to call them to say the chopper had gone down about 50 kilometres north of Longue-Pointe-de-Mingan on Quebec's North Shore.
